Supporting Sport Organisations in Wales

Differences Between Safeguarding in England and Wales

Throughout October and November 2022, The Ann Craft Trust and Sport Wales put on a series of free webinars for sport organisations in Wales.

The webinars focused on:

  • Learning from case studies.
  • Consent and capacity
  • Putting policies and procedures in practice.

More than a dozen different sport organisations attended the sessions to share best practice and to keep the safeguarding adults in sport dialogue going in Wales.

Further Activity in Wales

In recent months we have also delivered board training to two sports in conjunction with The CPSU.

In early November, we welcomed Michael Harrison, formerly of British Gymnastics, to make direct contact with our Welsh organisations to check in on whether they require any specific adult safeguarding support.

Mike is currently arranging a couple of drop-in sessions for organisations to discuss all things adult safeguarding. He is also asking whether any sport organisations in Wales would like to trial the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework.

We are grateful to Sport England for their support in allowing us to trial the framework with a small group of Welsh sport organisations and we look forward to progressing this pilot.
