Prevention Conference 2025: How charities can develop a supportive culture to ensure good safeguarding practice by Blind Veterans

Blind Veterans Safeguarding Charity

Jo Cook, National Safeguarding and Mental Capacity Lead at Blind Veterans UK, ran a workshop at the 2025 Safeguarding Adults Conference.

The workshop discussed challenges and successes that charities experience as they aim to shift from reactive safeguarding to a more proactive approach.

Jo outlined the importance of prevention in safeguarding. Among other things, it can promote a culture of awareness and empower individuals to exercise their rights and live their lives.

The workshop included some group discussions. Jo invited attendees to consider their biggest challenge regarding prevention and safeguarding, and to explore how they might overcome these challenges with other attendees.
