How Board Champions Can Support Safeguarding Adults Week

Safeguarding Adults Week is a national moment for organisations across the UK to come together, raise awareness, and strengthen their safeguarding culture.

The theme this year is Every Voice. Every Choice. We are focusing on coproduction, empowerment, and Making Safeguarding Personal.

You can access free resources to help you support the week here.

What This Year’s Theme Means for Sport

Safeguarding adults is most effective when people are heard, involved, and empowered. This aligns closely with the Care Act principles of empowerment, prevention, and partnership. Each of these principles are essential in sport’s governance and culture.

Each day will explore a different safeguarding theme, including:

  • Coproduction and empowerment
  • Prevention and early intervention
  • Creating safer cultures
  • Making Safeguarding Personal
  • Trust, choice, and voice in safeguarding practice

How Board Champions Can Support Safeguarding Adults Week

Board Champions play a critical role in shaping tone and expectations across organisations. During Safeguarding Adults Week, you can:

  • Share key messages with your Board and senior leadership.
  • Promote the week internally through newsletters, social media, and staff briefings.
  • Host a short Board discussion on how your organisation embeds empowerment and choice.
  • Review your safeguarding adult policy and reporting routes to ensure they reflect Making Safeguarding Personal.
  • Attend Ann Craft Trust events, including online seminars and the annual Safeguarding Adults Conference.

Why Safeguarding Adults Week Matters For Sport

For sport and activity organisations, Safeguarding Adults Week 2026 provides an opportunity to:

  • Strengthen prevention approaches.
  • Build confidence in reporting and response.
  • Reinforce the message that safeguarding adults is everyone’s responsibility.
  • Demonstrate visible Boardlevel commitment to safer cultures.

As Board Champions, you play a crucial role in keeping this focus alive. You can ensure that safeguarding adults remains visible, prioritised, and consistently modelled at the very top of the organisation, throughout Safeguarding Adults Week and beyond.
