Every Choice, Every Voice – Raising Awareness of Adult Safeguarding

Every Choice, Every Voice – Raising Awareness of Adult Safeguarding

The Ann Craft Trust joined forces with Active Derbyshire Derby County Community Trust (DCCT) and Derbyshire Safeguarding Adults Board ( DSAB), along with other local partners, to champion safer, kinder, and more supportive communities.

On Tuesday 3 November, we joined thousands of football fans at Pride Park for the Derby County FC home fixture against Norwich City FC.

Before the match kicked off, volunteers spoke with supporters and welcomed children and families into Harrison’s Hub. There were a number of fun, interactive activities all promoting care, respect, and the central idea that we must all look out for each other. Attendees were also invited to enter a raffle to win a signed Derby County football, generously signed by the men’s first-team squad, helping to create excitement and engagement while reinforcing the event’s community spirit.

As part of this, we shared an illustration by the artist Jessie Keightley, which aimed to show that safeguarding isn’t only about responding when something goes wrong. It’s about the everyday culture we all help to create. Created as a black-and-white mindfulness colouring illustration, it also offers an opportunity to pause, reflect and engage with the campaign’s messages in a creative way.

Shining A Spotlight On What It Means to Safeguard Adults in Sport and Activity

Hannah Shah, a Safeguarding Adults in Sport Manager at The Ann Craft Trust, said:

It’s been fantastic to work in partnership with Derby Safeguarding Adults Board and Derby County Community Trust, brought together by Franky Boyland, Sport Welfare Lead at Active Partners Trust (Derbyshire).

Conversations began as Franky was considering how to raise awareness of adult safeguarding in sport and physical activity. Franky’s innovative thinking resulted in various meetings and strands of work developing. Some of these related specifically to Safeguarding Adults Week, but some spanning much further in scope and time.

The mindful colouring sheet came about as the three partners considered activities for Harrison’s Hub that fans might enjoy during the match. It started as something specific, but it has grown into something bigger, representing co-production between numerous varied organisations with adult safeguarding in mind.

Of course these partnerships will continue beyond Safeguarding Adults Week. We look forward to what’s ahead. But for now, let’s all enjoy some mindful colouring!

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to and supported this event. The enthusiasm, expertise and dedication to all working in a truly co-produced way, will help make the campaign both meaningful and impactful.
