As part of our ongoing work to build safer cultures in sport, we’ve taken part in a number of projects.
Collaborate is one of the pillars in The Ann Craft Trust’s strategic plan:
We believe that working in partnership allows us to share knowledge of safeguarding and learn from others. It can also help us identify the gaps within sectors that need to begin developing safer cultures. The insights generated can in turn help us develop resources that can inspire and influence change.
The value of collaboration is clear. Through being open and transparent and sharing good practice, we can all learn from each other. Plus, if we all champion a common message, our voice will be much stronger. This will help us engage with different audiences to spread this message to as many people as possible.
This is why Working in Partnership is the focus of our annual Safeguarding Adults Conference. Get full details here.
The Safeguarding Adults Roadmap
We recently launched The Safeguarding Adults Roadmap. This is a great example of the potential of working in partnership. We could not have built The Roadmap without the helpful input from a number of our partners. Plus, we developed this resource through working closely with the people who will arguably benefit the most from it.

Sports Safeguarding Culture Programme
Earlier this year we supported the launch of the Sports Safeguarding Culture Programme.
We collaborated with a number of other organisations to create a new online tool to support the leaders of sport organisations to better understand and develop safer cultures in their organisations.
This tool helps organisations understand their culture, and how different groups perceive it. It then offers the resources to help the organisation make any improvements that might be necessary.
There is a compliance and audit part of this process, along with a questionnaire focused on seven different cultural characteristics that help organisations perform at a high level.
Unicef is hosting the tool. However, it applies equally to safeguarding adults as it does to safeguarding children.
You can learn more about this tool here.
The First British Standard for Safeguarding
The new British Standard 25800 is focused on “Safeguarding: Guidance for Organisations”. The aim is to equip anyone with the knowledge and information they need to prevent harmful situations from occurring.
Save The Children hosted the launch event for this new Standard. We have been contributing to the development of the first BSI Standard for Safeguarding along with a range of other organisations. The message is loud and clear: Safeguarding is for adults as well as children, and BS 25800 applies to both.
I am so proud that The Ann Craft Trust were involved in this award winning work. The Standard is free to access and will support any organisation large or small to develop strong safeguarding practices for both adults and children. The need for this standard is obvious, so we’re glad it’s now a reality!

Best Practice Guide to Safeguarding in Sport
And finally, we are happy to endorse another great example of what’s possible through working in partnership.
Lime Culture recently launched a new best practice guide for developing safeguarding in sport policy, guidance, and procedure.
The Ann Craft Trust was one of the organisations to collaborate on this guide. However, our input was small compared to the contribution from gymnasts, athletes, sport leaders, safeguarding leads, and many individuals who play and enjoy sport.
The guide will support organisations to develop and implement better policies, guidelines and procedures. It encourages organisation to think about eight key safeguarding principles, and it effectively brings these principles to life with examples from a number of different sports.
See You in November!
As I said above, this year’s Safeguarding Adults Conference is focused on the power of Working in Partnership.
Taking place on Wednesday 20 November, our conference will feature a selection of informative keynotes and workshops exploring effective techniques for working better together to safeguard adults.
