Ann Craft Trust Safeguarding Adults Bulletin – April 2026, Issue 135

Ann Craft Trust Safeguarding Bulletin 135 April 2026

Welcome to the Spring 2026 edition of the Ann Craft Trust Safeguarding Adults Bulletin. I hope you’re enjoying the lighter evenings and slightly warmer weather.

You can also download a printable version of this bulletin here.

Since the last bulletin, there has perhaps been the biggest announcement concerning safeguarding adults that we’ve seen for a number of years. The Casey Commission was set up to recommend how to reform the adult social care system.

Following Baroness Casey’s speech in March 2026, the Health and Social Care Secretary confirmed that there would be an urgent review of adult safeguarding statutory duties and powers as well as creating a new national safeguarding adults board. The Ann Craft Trust welcomes this development and we urge the Department of Health and Social Care to consider and listen to all stakeholders in this review.

Many of you reading this will have views on the current Care Act 2014 safeguarding legislation. So when the opportunity arises, please make sure you share these so we can continue to improve safeguarding adults arrangements.

We’ve also been reviewing our podcast series, Safeguarding Matters, and we aim to release a new episode every other week. These podcasts feature expert guests in conversation with Ann Craft Trust staff and are well worth a listen. To ensure you don’t miss a new one, why not sign up for our podcast update emails here?

And this is just the welcome message! Throughout the bulletin there are a whole host of interesting articles and information. And don’t forget that you can now sign up to our training update email for the latest information about our training opportunities.

Happy reading,

Safeguarding Adults Week 2026 Every Voice Every Choice

Safeguarding Adults Week 2026 – Every Voice. Every Choice.

Safeguarding Adults Week 2026 will take place 16 – 22 November.

Our focus this year is on how co-production is central to safeguarding adults.

Every Voice. Every Choice.

By prioritising choice, safeguarding can become more preventative, build trust, and empower individuals.

We’ll explore how a collaborative approach aligns closely with key principals of the Care Act 2014, such as empowerment and prevention.

A key theme is Making Safeguarding Personal, which prioritises the outcomes for the individuals. It’s all about giving people a voice, and making it their choice as to what happens, and what makes them feel safe.
