Everyone at The Ann Craft Trust would like to wish all the athletes heading to the Winter Olympics the very best of luck.
As the 2026 Winter Olympics begin, we’re reflecting on sport’s unique ability to bring people together across countries, cultures, and communities. It’s a powerful reminder of the positive role sport plays in so many of our lives.
For me, the Winter Olympics have always felt special. I grew up in Canada, where winter sport was simply part of life. I spent my childhood playing and enjoying so many different activities on snow and ice. Watching the Winter Olympics brings back so many special memories. I still have my favourites too. I never miss the figure skating or the curling.
Competition is a natural and positive part of sport, and of course every athlete competes to win. But it’s important to think beyond medals and podium places. Some things are more important: The camaraderie between athletes, and the great sense of belonging that sport can bring.
On top of this, we should never lose sight of athlete safety. Every athlete deserves to train and compete in safe and supportive environments. At the Ann Craft Trust, global events like the Winter Olympics highlight the importance of listening to the voice of everyone involved in sport.
