Welsh February Face to Face Safeguarding Lead Forum - Sport Wales National Centre February 2026

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and the strength of that shared commitment was clear at our recent Wales Safeguarding Lead Support Forum.

Supported by Sport Wales and hosted by the Ann Craft Trust and the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit, the forum brought together 20 partners from across the sector to focus on strengthening safeguarding in Welsh sport.

Safeguarding in sport has transformed significantly over the past 15 years. Standards, expectations and accountability have risen, and the sector has become far more proactive, informed, and collaborative.

This progress has been hard‑won, driven by learning, partnership and a collective determination to create safer environments for everyone. But we have made substantial strides, our work is far from finished. Continuous improvement must remain at the heart of everything we do.

The session provided space for practical updates, open discussion and shared learning. It included some input from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and updates from Sport Wales. Conversations centred on maintaining high standards and ensuring that safeguarding practice continues to evolve so that everyone can take part in sport safely.

During the ‘sharing good practice’ workshop, partners explored their individual approaches to safeguarding, creating a valuable opportunity to learn from one another. You could feel the energy, passion, and commitment in the room. It was a pleasure to hear about the ongoing work taking place across Welsh sport and to see such a strong, collective drive to keep raising the bar.

Safeguarding has come a long way. But our responsibility to protect all must continue to grow with it. Together, we can ensure that safe sport remains a priority today, tomorrow and for the years ahead.
