Supporting Footballers’ Mental Health – Guidance for Coaches

Supporting Footballers' Mental Health Guidance for Coaches

The FA has released new guidance for coaches to support players with their mental health.

An estimated four million people involved in grassroots football may experience mental health issues in the next 12 months.

Coaches are in a great position to support football players with their mental health. So The FA has teamed up with Heads Together to create the Heads Up campaign. It’s a series of hints and tips to help coaches recognise and support mental health issues.

The campaign focuses on:

  • Observational skills
  • Connections and conversations
  • Friendship and camaraderie
  • Physical benefits
  • Coach wellbeing
  • Signposting for further support

You can learn more about the campaign, and download the guide, on The FA’s website.
