Introducing Sharon Shoker, Our Safeguarding Adults Week Support Student

Shannon Shoker Safeguarding Adults Week Intern

Shannon Shoker, a final-year BA Geography student at the University of Nottingham, is currently working a marketing internship at The Ann Craft Trust, to help us prepare for Safeguarding Adults Week. We asked her to take a few moments to introduce herself.

I have recently joined the Ann Craft Trust as a Marketing Assistant, and I am really looking forward to contributing to the team and learning more about how marketing can help raise awareness of safeguarding issues across the UK.

What first drew me to the Ann Craft Trust was its commitment to protecting adults at risk and promoting dignity, respect, and inclusion. These values resonate strongly with my own. I have always been passionate about helping others and supporting meaningful causes, and the Trust’s focus on both prevention and empowerment particularly stood out to me. The idea of using communication and outreach to make safeguarding messages more accessible and engaging felt like a perfect fit for my skills and interests.

My background has always centred on community, creativity, and inclusion. During sixth form, I was a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Levee, where I helped promote awareness and belonging through campaigns, events, and educational initiatives. This experience strengthened my desire to work in spaces that make a real difference in people’s lives. Alongside this, I have volunteered with charities such as Kissing it Better and LangarAid, which taught me how small acts of connection and understanding can have a significant impact on others’ wellbeing.

I also have a growing interest in marketing and digital communication, having gained experience through roles such as a Virgin Media Brand Ambassador and by running my own small nail business at university. These opportunities helped me develop skills in content creation, social media strategy, and storytelling—tools I am excited to bring to my work with the Ann Craft Trust.

This placement is an incredible opportunity to combine my creative skills, academic background, and passion for helping people in a professional setting. I am looking forward to learning from the team, developing my marketing abilities, and supporting the Trust’s mission to ensure that everyone is treated with respect, dignity, and care.
