Coming Soon – The Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework

Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework

We’re pleased to announce the new Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework.

This online tool supports all sports organisations to implement best practice in safeguarding adults.

Since 2015, Sport England has funded ACT to work with sports organisations regarding safeguarding adults.

Safeguarding adults is a responsibility for every sport and physical activity organisation. So getting this right will ensure a wider participation in sport and activity, and ensure safe access for everyone.

We developed the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework to develop standards for safeguarding adults in the sport and activity sector. We aim to establish and promote best practice to support continual development.

The Principles of the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework

We developed the framework based on adult safeguarding legislation and current policy development in sport and physical activity.

It supports robust procedures that should be in place regarding safeguarding adults. It also helps provide a way forward for supporting decision-making and rights for adults who may be at risk.

The Framework is endorsed by Sport England. It supports the vision set out in “Towards an Active Nation” – that everyone in England, regardless of age, background or ability, feels able to take part in sport or activity.

Safeguarding Adults in Sport Manager Marc Scott said:

The Safeguarding Adults Framework is the first of its kind for the sport and physical activity sector, so I’m really excited to see it go live.

Safeguarding Adults is everyone’s responsibility. This will help the sector to embed good practice, look at their current processes and identify areas they need to improve with the support of the Ann Craft Trust.

Want to Complete the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework?

We’re currently in the pilot stage of the project. A few organisations will complete the framework, and we’ll use their feedback to fine-tune the platform before the official launch in April 2019.

We’ll release further details of how to complete the Framework once we’re ready to go live. We’ll be inviting two organisations a month to take part.

Please get in touch if you’d like to volunteer your organisation. We will create a calendar to book organisations in across the next year.

We’ve also created a flowchart to show how the process works. Find it here.
