Safeguarding in Sports Participation Groups – Safeguarding Matters

Safeguarding in Sports Participation Groups - Safeguarding Matters Podcast

Bridging the Gap

In this episode of Safeguarding Matters, ACT Safeguarding Adults in Sport Manager Nicola Dean chats with Anne Patterson and Tina Thordal about Safeguarding Adults in Sport Participation Groups.

What’s a Safeguarding Adults in Sport Participation Group?

It’s a move to bridge the gap between safeguarding specialists and those who actually need safeguarding – in this case, sports participants, and the staff, coaches, and volunteers who make their sport possible.

In a sport participation group, one of our trainers will meet with a group of participants. Over the course of three hours (or so), they’ll discuss a number of issues relating to safeguarding.

This is all about raising awareness of what people understand by “safeguarding”. It’s also about coming to understand what sports participants feel they need to keep themselves safe within their sports.

We’ll run our participation groups wherever we can and whenever we can. So if you’d like us to run a group in your area, please get in touch. The tea and cake will be on us!
