In a free online seminar for Safeguarding Adults Week, Anne Patterson will discuss insights from the Listening to the Voice of Participants Project.
She will explore what sport organisations can do to create a positive inclusive culture with individuals wellbeing at the centre. She will also discuss the differences between good and poor practice in sport and recreation clubs, and how this can help prevent situations that place people at risk of abuse.

This session will explain the background and methodology of Anne’s “Voice of Participants” research. It will focus on preventing situations that place people at risk through exploring good and poor practice in key areas such as:
- Effective leadership and the importance of activity leaders and volunteers,
- Person-centred ‘solutions’ – promoting choice, independence and confidence,
- Effective ‘history-taking’ and paperwork,
- Personalisation – having appropriate ‘aids’ and ‘aides’
- Building social capital and well-being,
- Effective Communication and training
- The ‘right’ environment
