This course will explore the key challenges for providers and organisations in ensuring best practice and continual development.

This course explores the fine line between abuse and poor practice and examines what we have learned from recent safeguarding inquiries. It considers when formal safeguarding procedures should be implemented with reference to local thresholds, the Care Act and Making Safeguarding Personal.

Who is this course for?

This course is for managers who have a role that includes responsibility for safeguarding in their organisation.

This could include:

  • Senior Managers
  • Managers
  • Safeguarding Leads
  • Compliance Managers

Aims of Is it Abuse or Poor Practice Training for Managers:

  • To refresh knowledge and understanding of the Care Act 2014.
  • To identify key areas of change within Safeguarding and explore the challenges this will have in practice.
  • To look at ways of ensuring best practice in safeguarding.
  • To consider how the people you support are included in risk taking and safeguarding.

Is it Abuse or Poor Practice Managers will explore the following areas:

  • Care Act 2014
    The key changes to safeguarding adults at risk introduced by the Care Act in 2014 will be identified and explained with a focus on the challenges in practice
  • Is it ‘safeguarding’
    How to use best practice guidance to offer support, clarity and consistency in decision making
  • Sensible Risk Taking
    What is a reasonable risk, who decides and the Mental Capacity Act
  • Making the distinction
    Human rights, restrictions, restraint and deprivations
