Abuse or Poor Practice

This course will explore the key challenges for providers and organisations in ensuring best practice and continual development.

This course explores the fine line between abuse and poor practice and examines what we have learned from recent safeguarding inquiries. It considers when formal safeguarding procedures should be implemented with reference to local thresholds, the Care Act and Making Safeguarding Personal.

This course is for managers who have a role that includes responsibility for safeguarding in their organisation.

This could include:

Aims of Is it Abuse or Poor Practice Training for Managers:

  • Refresh your knowledge and understanding of the Care Act 2014.
  • Discuss poor practice, abuse and the fine line between the two.
  • Challenge our views on acceptable everyday practice.
  • Establish what good support looks like.

Is it Abuse or Poor Practice Managers will explore the following areas:

  • Care Act 2014.
    The key changes to safeguarding adults at risk introduced by the Care Act in 2014 will be identified and explained with a focus on the challenges in practice.
  • Is it ‘safeguarding’?
    How to use best practice guidance to offer support, clarity and consistency in decision making
  • Neglect and organisational abuse.
    What these are and how they link to the fine line between abuse and poor practice.
  • The culture of an organisation.
    What a safe culture looks like, how staff can be supported and encouraged to report concerns and how organisational learning can create safer cultures.
